Celebrating the season with some bling
Holidays are all about the sparkle and magic of the season. The temperatures get colder, hearts fill with cheer and there's something happy and magical about the time. The Tonic Nuvo Glimmer Paste and Newton's Nook Snowfall Stencil I had used on a previous card needed to make another appearance. The shine and dimension from the Glimmer Paste really makes the stencil design stand out. Before putting away my holiday stamps and dies, I wanted to make just another design for the season. The holidays is a time when shimmer and sparkle are expected and are not over the top for a card.
Building the background
I ordered a bunch of Gina K paper because I had wanted to try it out. Gina K sells assorted packs of paper with two sheets of each color. I decided on Blue Powder cardstock for my base. I decided to stamp and stencil on the base of the card to reduce bulk and weight. I used 3M post-it tape to mask off half of the card front after I had scored it to an A2 sized landscape card. I stamped Simon Says Stamp Frozen Fractals snowflakes in Hero Arts Cornflower ink trying to keep the pattern random and filling in space with smaller snowflakes. I then taped down theSnowfall stencil from Newton's Nook. This stencil is fabulous and gives different patterns and shapes of snowflakes. I spread Tonic Nuvo Glimmer Paste on top of the stencil being careful to keep the paste to a thin coat. After carefully removing the stencil, wash it immediately. This paste dries quickly and warm water and soap do a good job but I still needed to use a bit of scrubbing to get all that shimmer off.
Finishing Touches
Since there is so much going on with the Glimmer Paste and stencil, I wanted to keep the rest of the card simple. I used Simon Says Stamp Northern Lights Snowflake die to cut a shape out of white card stock. When using this die, it may be necessary to run it through on the sides of your die cutting machine (so it is perpendicular to the machine). When I ran the die through parallel to the machine, the middle did not cut. I adhered this die cut using Ranger Multi Medium Matte adhesive. The sentiment is from The Right at Home Peace, Love and Joy stamp set which gives such an elegant finish to the card. I heat embossed the sentiment using Color Box Silver Sparkle embossing powder to add even more shine. A few sequins from Simon Says Stamp Frozen Fractals Sequins finish the card.
