Each month, Altenew hosts a challenge on their blog. The challenge is to come up with a project based on either the challenge colors or the image or both. This month's color palette of pinks and reds was really inspiring to me so I decided to play along. Read on to see how I interpreted Altenew's color challenge for January.
The color palette
January is such a dreary month where I live....cold, snowy with the sun's rays barely strong enough to raise the temperatures. This color palette immediately made me think of Valentine's Day and warmer weather ahead. I decided to make a Valentine's card using Red Cosmos ink set. I love how these reds and pinks play together.
Putting together the design
This year at Sevenscrafts, I am trying to make sure I am really using and reusing my supplies. I purchased two sets from Altenew, Alten Riding by and Balloon Bunch, which I thought would work for a valentine. I am also making this card for my friend, Kari V from Sunshine in my Pocket, who recently put out an appeal on Instagram for #bearcardsfordad to honor her dad who recently passed away. Alten is just an adorable bear and I thought his message of spreading love would make Kari smile.
Alten is a layered stamp. His bicycle was stamped with Obsidian pigment ink so all those details would come out crisp. His body was stamped with Silver Lake and Pure Graphite inks from the Rock Collection set. His shirt, bow tie, hat and sleeve were all stamped with inks from the Red Cosmos collection.
Alten is bringing some very lucky person three delicious balloons. These are layered balloons and I layered them with inks from the Red Cosmos collection. The heart: Frosty pink and Coral Berry, Star: Coral Berry and Ruby Red, Circle: Ruby Red and Grapevine. The balloons were then cut out twice so the shapes had two layers of paper. I then added a glitter marker to them and Ranger Ultra Thick Embossing Powder which gives an enamel finish to these balloons. The balloons were adhered to the card so they would be flying behind Alten as he pedals to his valentine. The sentiment is my handwriting using the Altenew Fine Liner Pen set. Sometimes it is just easier to write the sentiment versus trying to find the exact one.
Alten is just so cute, I made a blue version as a Happy Birthday card. Let me know in the comments below which card you like best, red or blue. Thank you for joining me today and I hope you have a crafty day!
