Thank you so much for joining me on the Altenew Educator Blog Hop. There is so much inspiration from the Altenew Educators in this hop as well as prizes! If you are hopping along you have come from Nandini Karmarkar of Paint, Paper and Scissors Your next stop on the hop is Irina Fonina of Creative Scrapbooking. Keep reading for how I used some of my oldest Altenew items in a new way.
Washi Tape!!
Washi tape is an item that I have a lot of in my craft room. I purchase it because it is so beautiful but it isn't always the first thing that I take out and use. To go along with the theme of the hop today, I wanted to show three different ways to use washi as a focus for your cards. All of these cards were really quick to put together and make such an impact.
Coloring on Washi?
Yes, you can color on Washi tape. On a white panel, I adhered a piece of Altenew Botanical Rhapsody Washi Tape. This is a wide washi that has open florals. On a few of the florals, I colored in using my Altenew Artist Markers. Yes, you can use alcohol markers to color on washi. These inks are fast drying but do take care to make sure the alcohol ink is completely dried. I selected just a few images of florals and leaves to act as a focal for the sentiment. Hi was cut out using the Altenew Bold Alpha set from Altenew gold foil cardstock and then cut out 3 more times from scrap cardstock. The shiny gold paper really sets of the delicate washi. The washi panel was then added to a top folding gray A2 card base.
Washi Eclipse
The eclipse technique is subtle and really makes a wow impact for the recipient. Altenew Glitter Flurries washi tape has muted colors mixed with gold foil which is a great partner with the eclipse technique. After laying the Glitter Flurries washi onto a white card front panel, I lined up YOU from the Altenew Bold Alpha set in the middle of the panel. I then used the YOU dies and cut out 6 more of each letter from scrap cardstock. Having the 6 layers pushes the Glitter Flurries YOU above the card front panel so it is easier to see. A sub sentiment from Simple Sentiments embossed in Antique Gold embossing powder on black cardstock finishes the card.
Washi Background
Not all washi tapes are wide enough to cover a full card stock panel. The Round Art Washi tape is a beautiful graphic washi that is 2.25" wide. On a card front panel, I added two strips of the Round Art washi. To cover the seam, I added Emerald Gold Washi tape which is a thin green washi with a gold foil stripe down its middle. The card needed a bold sentiment to stand out from the background. Hello was cut out from the Altenew Bold Alpha die set from Gold foil cardstock and then three more times from scrap cardstock.

I know what you mean. Washi tape can be so pretty but I never remember to use it! I have to admit I have never heard of coloring it before but it does make sense now that you mention it. I think this will be my next personal challenge. To USE my washi and change up its colors!

That eclipse washi card is beautiful! I always feel like these cards have a little secret to tell. Lol. As for coloring with the alcohol markers on washi...I did try that once, but the ink never absorbed and pooled. Is it supposed to do that? Maybe that’s the idea. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
